About Youth and Family Connect
Youth and Family Connect (YFC) are a registered charity operating in the most densely populated and socioeconomically diverse community in Australia – Woolloomooloo. With over 60 languages spoken in Woolloomooloo, its multiculturally diverse and also unique in its socio-economically broad demographic base.
YFC was founded in 2016 after identifying a need in the community. Although many charities operate in Woolloomooloo almost all their resources are targeted at the homeless and destitute. The impetus for our formation was recognizing the lack of purposeful, creative, and educational activities, events, and programs available to low income single parent households, at-risk youth, and the elderly, who fall through the cracks of local charities’ funding mandates.
YFC spearhead unique community arts-based programs specifically designed for and aimed at these sectors of community to provide meaningful and creative group activities that promote the arts, contribute to social cohesion and good mental health, and alleviate issues such as loneliness and isolation so prevalent across low socio-economic communities.
A Youth and Family Connect Scholarship helped a talented local girl achieve her dream. Lydia was selected to attend the Summer Intensive Ballet Program at the prestigious Joffrey Ballet in NYC.
Russell Crowe – The local legend and global superstar is an ardent supporter of Youth and Family Connect‘s community projects and initiatives, regularly volunteering his time for YFC, seen here giving us a hand re- netting the area’s basketball courts with local child, Zion.
We’re so happy to have helped young Woolloomooloo local, Des with a Youth and Family Connect scholarship for travel expenses to compete interstate. He’s an exceptional basketballer, lovely kid, and comes from a great family.
